Taylor's Catch Customs are special showcase instruments created to demonstrate what the company's custom program and craftspeople can achieve, with past Catch guitars featured as part of Taylor's annual NAMM presentations. This example pairs a Lutz spruce soundboard with dramatically figured bocote back and sides, complemented by cocobolo binding, a segmented cocobolo rosette outlined in mother-of-pearl, and custom cocobolo appointments.

The Grand Concert body provides an especially fitting foundation for such a detailed custom build. Taylor designed the compact shape around an articulate, touch-sensitive response, and its 24.875" scale length gives the strings a slightly more relaxed feel than the company's longer-scale full-size designs. Taylor specifically identifies the Grand Concert as a strong platform for fingerstyle and recording because of its controlled, focused voice and ability to respond to subtle changes in touch.
