The MXR Smart Gate is built for players who want their rig to stay quiet when they’re not playing without sacrificing the attack, sustain, or character of their tone. With three selectable noise reduction ranges, it can target everything from high-frequency hiss to unwanted midrange and low-end noise, making it equally useful for clean setups, high-gain rigs, and everything in between. Its intelligent response reacts gradually to long, sustained notes while closing quickly on short, syncopated passages, while the fast attack preserves the picking transients and harmonic detail that keep your playing feeling alive.

Dialing it in is straightforward with the Trigger Level control, which lets you set exactly how much signal is needed to open the gate. The Hiss, Mid, and Full settings let you focus the noise reduction where your rig needs it most, while the Hi Trigger Range switch extends the gate’s sensitivity for especially noisy environments. A bright Gate LED shows when the gate is engaged, and the footswitch provides simple on/off control with hardwire bypass when the effect is out of the circuit.

Compact, dependable, and easy to integrate, the Smart Gate connects directly between your guitar and amplifier and delivers serious noise control without making your playing feel restricted. With a 20 Hz–20 kHz frequency response when open, 1 MΩ input impedance, and the ability to run from a 9-volt battery or compatible DC power supply, it’s a practical solution for cleaning up noisy pedalboards and high-gain setups.
