For bassists who need the low-end authority and precision that helped drive one of thrash metal's landmark albums, the Jackson Legend Series Limited Edition Signature David Ellefson CB V Concert Bass reaches directly back to the instrument that established Ellefson's low-end legacy. Created in honor of the anniversary of Megadeth's landmark album Rust in Peace, this limited-edition bass reproduces the first five-string Jackson built for Ellefson’s performances on the band's 1990 tour. Its Gloss Black Concert Bass body, black hardware, pointed five-in-line headstock with white Radiation logo, and signature details capture the purposeful stage presence associated with that era.
The construction reflects the demands of powerful, technically precise bass playing. An alder body is built around a three-piece quartersawn maple neck-through structure with graphite reinforcement, creating a rigid foundation for sustain and stability across the instrument's 34" scale. The ebony fingerboard has a 12"-16" compound radius that becomes progressively flatter toward the upper register, complemented by 22 jumbo frets, pearloid sharkfin inlays, and Luminlay side dots. An oiled neck finish keeps the playing surface direct and fast, making the CB V particularly well suited to aggressive picking, intricate riffing, rapid position changes, and the demanding rhythm work associated with thrash and progressive metal.
A pair of active EMG pickups gives the bass the tonal flexibility needed to move between focused articulation and massive low-end support. The EMG 40CS neck pickup and 40DC bridge pickup are governed by master volume and blend controls alongside an active three-band EQ for shaping bass, midrange, and treble directly from the instrument. That combination makes the CB V a natural choice for thrash, heavy metal, progressive metal, hard rock, and other high-gain settings where the bass needs both weight and definition. A Jackson HiMass five-string bridge and Hipshot Ultralite open-gear tuners complete a signature instrument whose story begins with Ellefson's groundbreaking 1990 five-string and continues in a modern recreation of an important piece of Jackson and metal history. Available now at Haggerty’s Music, this heavy metal tone machine ships with a sturdy foam core case for convenient transport and reliable protection.
