The Gibson LG-2 50s Original revives one of Gibson’s most beloved small-body acoustics, bringing the character of a classic workhorse guitar back into the spotlight. Part of Gibson’s Original Collection, this model captures the spirit of the highly sought-after 1950s LG-2s that followed the famed Banner-era instruments of the 1940s. Compact in size but rich in voice, the LG-2 has long been celebrated for delivering a full, balanced tone in a comfortable, easy-to-hold body.
Its tone begins with the traditional pairing of a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, supported by classic scalloped X-bracing. This combination produces a lively, articulate sound with warm lows, focused mids, and clear highs that respond beautifully to both strumming and fingerstyle playing. Despite its smaller footprint, the LG-2 offers surprising depth and projection, making it a versatile alternative to larger-bodied guitars like the J-45.
The mahogany neck features a comfortable historic-inspired profile that recalls the feel of vintage Gibson instruments, while the rosewood fingerboard with simple mother-of-pearl dot inlays keeps the look understated and classic. Vintage-style details such as the tortoise teardrop pickguard, sloped rectangular rosewood bridge, and Grover strap tuners add to the guitar’s authentic 50s-era aesthetic, all finished in a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer that allows the wood to resonate freely.
Built with today’s players in mind, the LG-2 50s Original is also equipped with L.R. Baggs VTC electronics for natural, reliable amplification. The discreet soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls keep the guitar’s vintage appearance intact while offering convenient stage-ready functionality. Whether used as a comfortable couch guitar, a studio companion, or a live performance partner, the LG-2 50s Original delivers classic Gibson tone in a timeless small-body design.
