Few instruments have had as lasting an impact on music as the Gibson J-45, affectionately known as “The Workhorse.” Introduced in 1942, the J-45 quickly became the go-to acoustic guitar for recording artists, songwriters, and performing musicians across every genre. Its warmth, balance, and reliable projection earned it a reputation as one of the most widely recorded guitars in history, heard on countless classic records from folk and blues to country, rock, and Americana. The J-45’s round-shoulder dreadnought design offered both comfort and power, making it a trusted companion in the studio and on the stage.
This J-45 Faded 50’s model pays homage to the golden era of Gibson acoustics, recapturing the tone and feel of the originals while offering subtle updates for the modern player. With a solid Sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, this guitar delivers its signature blend of rich low-end warmth, punchy mids, and sparkling highs with a dynamic voice that responds beautifully to fingerpicking and strumming alike. The faded satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish enhances resonance while giving the guitar a naturally aged look and feel. The mahogany neck sports a comfortable Round profile, while the rosewood fingerboard is adorned with classic mother-of-pearl dot inlays for a timeless aesthetic.
Outfitted with a factory-installed L.R. Baggs VTC pickup and preamp system, the J-45 Faded 50’s is stage- and studio-ready from day one. Its discreet soundhole-mounted controls make volume and tone adjustments easy without disrupting the guitar’s clean appearance. Whether you’re playing an intimate solo set or cutting tracks in a pro studio, this guitar offers clarity, warmth, and presence that adapts to any musical setting. Now available at Haggerty’s Music, this modern take on a legendary acoustic comes complete with a Gibson hardshell case, offering protection and portability for players who are ready to put this Workhorse back to work.
