Some acoustic guitars become icons because their voice seems to belong naturally alongside a singer, and the Gibson Hummingbird has filled that role since its arrival in 1960. Its square-shoulder character became woven into generations of folk, country, rock, and singer-songwriter music, prized for a warm fundamental, strong rhythmic presence, and the ability to support a vocal without overwhelming it. The Hummingbird Pro EC takes that familiar idea in a more performance-oriented direction, adding a single cutaway for players who need easier access to the upper register while retaining the classic Sitka spruce and mahogany tonal foundation.
The combination of a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and scalloped advanced X-bracing gives this Hummingbird a voice suited especially well to accompaniment. Players can expect a warm, woody midrange with clear articulation and enough projection for assertive strumming, while the guitar remains responsive enough for lighter flatpicking and fingerstyle work. Its longer scale also contributes to a firm, immediate response that can be particularly satisfying for rhythm players. The result is an acoustic that makes sense for singer-songwriters, country and Americana musicians, worship players, rock performers, and anyone looking for a full-bodied stage guitar with the unmistakable visual personality of the Hummingbird family.
For live performance, the L.R. Baggs VTC system translates the guitar's acoustic voice into a straightforward amplified format with discreet soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls. The cutaway makes lead passages and higher-register chord voicings more accessible, while the rounded mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard maintain a traditional Gibson feel. Bone at the nut and saddle, nickel Grover Rotomatic tuners, and the distinctive tortoiseshell pickguard complete an instrument that balances classic Gibson acoustic character with practical features for contemporary performance. Available now at Haggerty’s Music.
