When a guitarist wants massive sustain, crushing distortion, and a fuzz voice that has helped shape generations of rock music, this used EHX Big Muff Pi delivers one of the most recognizable sounds in effects history. The Big Muff Pi emerged around the turn of the 1970s and became Electro-Harmonix's signature fuzz/distortion circuit, prized for combining heavy saturation with a smooth, singing quality that could make lead notes sustain with an almost violin-like character. Over the decades, the Big Muff sound has found a home in classic rock, progressive rock, alternative, grunge, shoegaze, stoner rock, and countless experimental styles.

The enduring appeal of the Big Muff comes partly from how much sound it produces with such a straightforward interface. Sustain controls the amount of distortion and sustain, Tone moves the sound between darker and brighter voicings, and Volume sets the overall output level. Push the Sustain control and the pedal delivers thick walls of saturated rhythm or soaring lead tones; back it down and the circuit can provide a less overwhelming layer of fuzzy drive. Its all-analog signal path and true bypass preserve the traditional approach, while standard 9V battery or external power options make this NYC-style Big Muff easy to integrate into a modern pedalboard.
