The Aghartha Drone Distortion Preamp is a massive collision of two legendary circuits, bringing the thunderous character of an early ’70s Sunn Model T preamp together with the unmistakable grind of a RAT distortion. Designed in collaboration with Nick Williams of Dunwich Amplification, this one-knob powerhouse is built for guitarists and bassists chasing enormous low end, resonant mids, and sprawling walls of saturated sound. Its JFET-based emulation captures the feel of the Model T’s center input, while 36V of internal headroom gives the circuit added room to breathe, delivering a more open, tube-like response even as the sound grows increasingly aggressive.

At the center of the Aghartha is the Grimm control, which blends a boosted RAT-style distortion into the Model T-inspired preamp. Turn it all the way down to remove the RAT from the signal and let the preamp deliver its own thick, amp-like crunch. As you turn the control clockwise, the two circuits gradually merge into a broad range of overdriven textures, from gritty, resonant drive to immense, harmonically rich distortion. It can serve as a standalone distortion pedal in front of your amplifier, or its internal master volume trim pot can be raised to send the Aghartha directly into an effects return or dedicated power amp, transforming it into a full-fledged preamp platform.

Built with the same attention to detail as its imposing sound, the Aghartha features relay-based true-bypass soft switching, internal adjustments for master volume and LED brightness, and premium components including Neutrik input and output jacks, a Lumberg power jack, and sealed relay switching. Its powder-coated enclosure is finished with clear coat and high-gloss textured UV-printed artwork, housing a compact but substantial design. Powered by a standard 9V DC center-negative supply, the Aghartha is an invitation to explore crushing distortion, expansive drone textures, and the kind of resonant, earth-shaking tones that seem to come from somewhere far below the surface.
