Built for players who want the fast, aggressive feel that made the San Dimas name famous, the Charvel Standard Series San Dimas Style-2 SD2 HH HT distills the brand's hot-rodded philosophy into a straightforward workhorse. Charvel's identity has long been tied to guitars made for players who demand effortless access to riffs, leads, and technical playing, and the Style-2 puts that attitude into a familiar single-cut silhouette. This used Gloss Black SD2 keeps the presentation understated while retaining the unmistakably performance-driven character of a Charvel.
The SD2 is particularly at home when the music calls for speed, definition, and a forceful amplified voice. Its pair of Charvel Custom humbuckers delivers the output and authority suited to hard rock, metal, punk, alternative, progressive styles, and high-gain lead work, while the fixed string-through-body bridge gives players a stable platform for tight rhythm playing and assertive picking. The Speed Neck, rolled fingerboard edges, compound-radius fingerboard, and jumbo frets reinforce the guitar's player-first personality, allowing it to transition naturally from rhythm work and power chords into bends, fast runs, and upper-register lead playing.
This particular guitar also differs from the original factory control layout. The Standard Series SD2 was designed around a single volume control and three-way pickup selector, but this instrument has been modified with the addition of a tone control and all the necessary potentiometers, along with black Strat-style numbered knobs. That modification gives the player an additional way to soften the high end or reshape the response of the humbuckers without sacrificing the simple character of the original design. For someone looking for an affordable, gig-ready Charvel with a no-nonsense hardtail platform and a useful tonal modification already installed, this used SD2 offers an appealing combination of modern playability, high-output attitude, and practical versatility. Avaialable now at Haggerty’s Music.
