Accurate tuning should be the easiest part of getting ready to play, and this used BOSS TU-3 turns the job into a fast, dependable part of any stage or pedalboard setup. Its story traces back to the BOSS TU-2, introduced in 1998 as the first pedal-format chromatic tuner, with the TU-3 arriving in 2009 with improved accuracy, a sharper display, and expanded tuning modes. Its 21-segment LED meter offers Cent and Stream display options, while High Brightness mode improves visibility on outdoor stages. Accurate to ±1 cent, the TU-3 accommodates standard and extended-range guitar and bass setups as well as lowered tunings.

Beyond tuning, the TU-3 serves as a practical pedalboard utility. Engaging the tuner automatically mutes the output for silent tuning, while a dedicated Bypass output provides additional routing flexibility and the buffered circuit helps maintain signal strength through longer pedal chains. Guitar mode supports 7-string instruments, Bass mode accommodates 5- and 6-string basses, and selectable flat settings allow substantial down-tuning. The DC output can even distribute power to other pedals when the TU-3 is paired with the appropriate optional BOSS adapter and parallel power cable, making it a useful hub for live, rehearsal, and studio rigs.
